Welcome to Westmead Anaesthesia!

Are you looking for a position as an anaesthetic registrar at Westmead? We have a number of positions (possibly up to seven) for trainees at all levels of basic and advanced training for 2008.

You should log onto and register at the NSW Dept of Health website (www7.health.nsw.gov.au/healthjobs). Go to the JMO jobs tab and click on "JMO Jobs List". Then look for either "scheme trainee" or "provisional fellow" in the anaesthesia section. If you have trouble finding the site. Click on the link from our homepage. The closing date for applications is 24th August 2008.

Westmead is a busy place so extensive clinical experience is unavoidable. Working here is also a lot of fun- described as "the happiest anaesthetic department in Sydney" at a recent ANZCA inspection (August 2007), we enjoy our work and strive hard to be good at it. If this philosophy suits your interests you should apply for one of our positions.

The criteria for scheme trainee positions as advertised on the above site are as follows:

1. Currently registered or eligible for registration in New South Wales
2. MBBS or equivalent and completion of at least two postgraduate years.
3. Demonstrated commitment to relevant training program.
4. Demonstrates ability to work in a complex clinical environment.
5. Demonstrated excellent clinical skills and judgment.
6. Demonstrates teamwork, time management and problem solving skills in the clinical setting.
7. Experience and willingness to teach junior medical staff.
8. Ability to move between services and geographical locations to deliver patient care.
9. Ability to work in a computerised environment or a preparedness to learn.
10. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
11. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
12. Preparedness and ability to work independently in a supervised environment.
13. Prepared to participate in overtime and on-call work as required.
14. Preparedness to undertake secondments to other hospitals included in the Network if required, including non-metropolitan hospitals.
15. Knowledge of relevant NSW Health policy, including EEO and OH&S.

In other words, superheroes should definitely apply.
