Obstetric Analgesia and Anaesthesia
During this term you will be trained in several techniques including:
- Use of epidural analgesia for labour
- Anaesthesia for obstetric surgery:
- Spinal anaesthesia.
- Epidural anaesthesia.
- General anaesthesia.
- Use of epidurals for post operative pain.
- Management of obstetric illness in anaesthesia.
Acute Pain Service (APS)
You will also be attached to the acute pain service at Westmead
hospital. During this attachment you will learn:
- Techniques for management of post operative pain.
- Major systemic techniques for pain:
- Patient Controlled Analgesia
- Opiate Infusions
- Minor techniques for pain.
- Use of regional techniques for pain:
- Epidural analgesia.
- Regional catheter techniques.
- APS techniques for non surgical pain
- APS techniques for cancer pain.
