2.1 Administration
2.1.1 The Department is administered by the Director
of Anaesthesia who is responsible to the Chairman of the Division of Surgery,
Anaesthetics and Intensive Care.
2.1.2 The Department of Anaesthesia includes all
consultants, clinical fellow's, senior registrars and trainees in anaesthesia as
well as the medical and clinical perfusionists.
2.1.3 Resident medical officers, nursing staff and
clerical officers providing services to the department are responsible to the
respective Clinical Superintendents, Assistant Director of Nursing and office
manager.
2.1.4 Business meetings of the department include all
consultants. Clinical fellows may attend by invitation.
2.1.5 Clinical and quality assurance meetings of the
department include consultants, clinical fellows, senior registrars and
trainees. Resident medical officers currently attached to the department are
permitted to attend.
2.1.6 The consultant members of the staff shall elect
an Executive to advise the Director. This Executive shall comprise the Director,
Deputy Director, staff representative and two (2) Visiting Medical Officer
representatives.
2.1.7 The Director, or his delegate, attends meetings
of the Operating Suite Management Committee and such other inter-departmental
committees as are necessary to promote efficient and harmonious relationships
with other departments and secure a high standard of patient care.
2.1.8 The Department is responsible for the
publication of the operating lists. In conjunction with the Assistant Director
of Nursing, Operating Suite, the department receives, processes and edits these
lists as necessary to ensure efficient utilisation of the operating facility
within the times available.
2.1.9 The Department provides day, night and weekend
cover appropriate to the anaesthetic, obstetric, acute pain management and
perfusion needs of the hospital.
2.1.10 "Out-of-hours" rosters are provided
for general anaesthesia, obstetric, acute pain management and cardiac
anaesthesia and perfusion.
2.1.11 The department appoints certain office-bearers
to undertake duties of an appropriate nature, viz:
