2.5 Cardiac Anaesthesia and Perfusion

2.5.1 A service is provided 24 hours/day, 7 days/week for anaesthesia to cardiac patients and for cardiopulmonary perfusion.

2.5.2 Perfusion services will always be provided by a medical perfusionist who will often supervise a clinical perfusionist.

2.5.3 The department is responsible for the selection, maintenance and running of perfusion equipment.

2.5.4 Teaching in the areas of cardiac anaesthesia and perfusion is provided for nurses and trainees.

2.5.5 A consultation service is provided to the post-cardiac surgical recovery ward for ventilation and pain management of patients.
