2.9 Research

2.9.1 Research involving both clinical and laboratory activities is encouraged in the Department. A Research Officer (Professor P. Klineberg) is responsible for disseminating information regarding research grants available and the Hospital Research Committee guidelines.

2.9.2 It is expected that the majority of projects will be clinical in nature and collaboration with other departments is encouraged.

2.9.3 Provisional Fellows will be expected to carry out projects during their fellowship year.

2.9.4 To support research at Westmead Hospital, a Research Trust has been established by members of the Department of Anaesthesia and is administered by the Trust Executive.

2.9.5 The Department provides a "Stat Laboratory" service in the operating suite. This promotes blood gas and electrolyte analysis and is maintained by the perfusionists under the direction of the Director.
