4. ROLE OF THE ANAESTHETIST IN THE DELIVERY SUITE

4.1 Supervision of the provision of analgesic agents, e.g. Nitrous Oxide, by midwives.

4.2 Giving advice as to when regional anaesthesia is required and the provision thereof.

4.3 Organising and providing general anaesthetic services for emergency obstetrics, e.g. caesarean sections, abnormal presentation, retained placentae.

4.4 Providing advice and assistance on intensive care aspects of management of seriously ill obstetric patients.

4.5 Teaching :-

* Anaesthetic trainees

* Medical undergraduates

* Midwives

* Pupil midwives.
