2. MONITORING - FOETUS

Monitoring of the foetus is required during epidural anaesthesia.  Monitoring should include regular observation of:

Foetal heart rate.

Uterine contractions.

Progress of the labour.

The obstetrician is to be notified if deviations from what is expected to be normal should occur.

It would be of some advantage if the state of cervical dilatation could be determined before the institution of the epidural.
