3. PATIENT CARE

3.1 Protect the lower limbs from the cold and injury.

3.2 Palpation of the bladder prior to epidural top-up.

3.3 Pressure area care should be undertaken at regular intervals.

3.4 The patient should be nursed in any position other than supine whilst the block is in progress. If obstetric manoeuvres are to be performed then the patient should be nursed on a right-sided wedge, which should effectively tilt 15 degrees from the supine position.
