4. COMPETENCE OF PERSONS DELEGATED TO ADMINISTER TOP-UP DOSES.

4.1 It is the responsibility of the anaesthetist placing the cannula to satisfy himself or herself of the competence of the person to carry out the top-up procedure.

4.2 That competence is established by the following :-

4.2.1 That the person has undergone a course of instructions on epidural anaesthesia and the pharmacology of local anaesthetics.

4.2.2 That the person has been accredited after satisfactorily performing three (3) supervised top-ups.

4.3 No person may be required to carry out this technique if uncertain of his or her competence to do so.
