THE GENERAL ROSTER

1. For the purpose of this roster, the specialist staff is divided into four (4) teams, supplemented, where necessary, by the Provisional Fellows.

2. Each team is responsible for one night (Monday through Thursday).

3. Relief for nights falling within a period of leave is provided by internal arrangement within the team, with the exception of sudden and unexpected illness, in which case the Director (or his delegate) be notified immediately for appropriate emergency arrangements to be made for the night or weekend concerned.

4. Night duty commences at 1730 hours and concludes at 0600 hours the following morning.

5. Cover from 0600 to 1730 hours, Monday to Friday, is provided by the staff anaesthetist on duty for the day, the provisional fellow or senior registrar.

6. Weekends commence at 1730 hours Friday and conclude at 0600 hours Monday. Long weekends commence at the same time and conclude at 0600 hours Tuesday.

7. Two members of a team are rostered for weekends and the duties are divided as follows (ordinary weekends) :-

Friday 1730 - Saturday 0600 Consultant A

Saturday 0600 - Sunday 0600 Consultant B

Sunday 0600 - Monday 0600 Consultant A

8. Preparation of the roster is the responsibility of the Executive. It is normally published late in the preceding calendar year and covers the ensuing twelve (12) months, beginning after the new year holiday.

9. Pre-publication, requests for exemption from particular public holidays will be considered and granted wherever possible and equitable.

10. After publication, all alterations must be by private exchange.

11. The department must be notified of changes as soon as negotiated. This is most important and the parties to an exchange must ensure that one or the other assumes this responsibility.

12. Relief for weekend duty falling within a period of leave is arranged by exchange, not necessarily within the team of four.

13. In the case of prolonged absence of an unusual nature of a member of the visiting staff, special arrangements for relief may be possible by consultation with the Director.
